Nurses make the difference. Whether comforting a child getting a shot or prepping a patient for heart surgery, nurses provide care for those who need it most. Florida Hospital will celebrate the work of our nurses during National Nurses Week May 6-12. Some of the highlights include: Miss America comes to Florida Hospital Winter Park. On Tuesday, May 11, Miss America 2004 Ericka Dunlap will talk to nurses about the importance of cultural diversity in nursing. Spa Day at Florida Hospital Orlando. Monday, May 10, nurses will get the royal treatment with massages, hair styling, candles, soothing harp music and more. Tasty treats make the rounds at Florida Hospital East Orlando. On Monday, May 10, managers and administrators will bake their favorite desserts, load them on a cart, and tote them around to each unit so nurses can pick their favorite sweet snack. Help for Parkinson’s patients. Nearly one million Americans suffer from Parkinson's disease. The cause is unknown and there is no cure. But, many Central Floridians living with Parkinson’s are getting help managing their disease at the new Florida Hospital Parkinson’s Resource Center. On Thursday, May 13 see how the exercise classes, support groups, and treatment information available at the Parkinson’s Resource Center is improving the lives of Parkinson’s patients. Record number of people go without health insurance. In Florida, one in five people is uninsured and rising health care costs are making it even more difficult for individuals and businesses to purchase health care coverage. To call attention to this growing problem, May 10-16 is designated Cover the Uninsured Week. Learn about the innovative programs Florida Hospital has put in place to help those in need. How fit is your company? As a health care leader, Florida Hospital will recognize Central Florida companies that are dedicated to the health and fitness of its employees. Three companies will be awarded the “Most Fit Company Award” in their respective business size. The results will be announced at the largest 5k in Orlando, the Insurance Office of America Corporate 5k at the Citrus Bowl on Thursday, May 6. There when you need them. They serve their communities from the frontline, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, first responders, fire fighters, and the police. During National EMS Week May 16-22 talk to thankful patients who say they wouldn’t be alive today if these heroes hadn’t answered the call when time mattered most.
