Life-threatening illness drives nurse to health care career. She knows what it’s like to be a patient, now graduate nurse Carrie Fong is taking care of patients on Florida Hospital Orlando’s bone marrow unit. Fong, who suffers from primary pulmonary hypertension, recently completed her nursing degree and is now drawing on her own experience dealing with a life-threatening disease to better understand what her patients are going through.
Taking Coumadin just got easier and more convenient. Coumadin is an effective blood-thinning medication that helps prevent heart attacks and strokes for patients with blood clots, but it requires such careful monitoring that patients must constantly have their blood drawn and dosage adjusted. Now, instead of going to a laboratory or doctor’s office, Coumadin patients can visit Florida Hospital Celebration Health’s Coumadin Clinic. Run by pharmacists, the clinic offers a simple finger-stick blood test and immediate results that allow pharmacists to change the dosage during the visit.
