Miss America 2004 Visits Nurses at Florida Hospital Winter Park. Hometown Hero Returns to Central Florida to Honor Nurses and Share Diversity Message. The nursing staff at Florida Hospital Winter Park knows the importance of diversity. After all, the patients they care for and colleagues they work side- by- side with everyday come from a variety of backgrounds. That’s why the nursing staff is so excited to welcome Miss America 2004 Ericka Dunlap to a luncheon celebrating Nurse Appreciation Week. The hometown hero is on a national speaking tour promoting her platform, “United We Stand, Divided We Fall Behind: Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion.” Dunlap also has a special appreciation for the hard work that nurses do because her mother is a registered nurse. The Miss America Organization is one of the nation’s leading achievement programs and the world’s largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women. In 2003, the Miss America Organization made available more than $45 million in cash and tuition scholarship assistance. Based in Atlantic City, New Jersey, the Miss America Organization provides young women with a vehicle to further their personal and professional goals and instills a spirit of community service through a variety of unique nationwide community-based programs. On an annual basis, Miss America state and local titleholders, along with the Organization’s network of volunteers, participate in more than 12,000 community-service projects, providing in excess of 500,000 service hours to worthy causes.
