Florida Hospital Winter Park to Build Dr. Philips' Baby Place

Babies to help break ground on a new building for women and babies

WHAT: Over the past 50 years, more than 66,000 babies have come into the world at Florida Hospital Winter Park.  As those babies have grown, so has the Central Florida community. In order to keep up with the growth of the area, the hospital is breaking ground on a new four-story building.  Because Florida Hospital Winter Park has seen a 59 percent increase in baby deliveries over the past four years, part of the new addition will be dedicated to women and baby services, housing the Dr. Phillips Baby Place.  The Dr. Phillips Baby Place will nearly double the maternity unit, adding 20 private suites for women who just gave birth.

Upon completion, the 55,000 square foot facility will also include 20 additional private patient rooms and diagnostic services such as radiology.  This building is the first phase of a larger expansion project planned at Florida Hospital Winter Park. Upon completion of the entire project, the current hospital will have more than 300 inpatient beds and an expanded emergency department.

The project is expected to cost more than $10 million and will be made possible, in a large part, by the generous philanthropic support of the community.  To encourage additional community support of the expansion project, Dr. Phillips, Inc. has pledged $1 million for the Dr. Phillips Baby Place.
