The 59-year-old man underwent surgery just days after the Florida Hospital Transplant Center officially activated its liver transplant program. “Through this new program at the Florida Hospital Transplant Center, we are now able to provide life-saving liver transplants to patients who would have previously had to travel to other parts of the state for surgery,” said Dr. Michael Angelis, surgical director of Liver Transplantation Services. In April 2007, Florida Hospital officially announced its expansion of services to include liver and kidney-pancreas transplants. Since 1973, its transplant program has performed more than 2,000 kidney transplants. The transplant program at Florida Hospital has transformed lives for more than 30 years through personalized care of patients awaiting transplantation. The program offers transplantation services, patient and professional education, and dedication to those in need of lifesaving organ transplants. Last year, organ donations saved more than 28,000 lives. Today, nearly 100,000 children and adults are awaiting organ transplants. |
