People living in Volusia County, one of the counties hit hardest by Hurricane Frances, got some much needed medical relief this week. The Florida Hospital Centra Care "Caravan of Hope" opened its doors to dozens of people in need at Deltona’s Dewey Boster Park on Thursday, September 9, 2004. Doctors, nurses, and other Florida Hospital employees helped deliver basic medical care to folks suffering from things like respiratory illnesses, cuts and scratches, and generator burns. The "Caravan of Hope" teamed up with partners like Amerigroup, Volusia County, Brevard County, and the Salvation Army to offer comfort stations that supplied food, ice, and other necessities to Hurricane victims.
This is the second time in less than a month Florida Hospital Centra Care has mobilized to help hurricane victims. On Wednesday, August 18, Thursday, August 19, and Friday, August 20, Florida Hospital Centra Care traveled to three locations in Osceola County to help victims of Hurricane Charley who needed medical care and other necessities. During those three days, the Florida Hospital Centra Care team treated 294 patients and gave food, ice and water to over 20,000 people.
On Friday, September 10, 2004, the "Caravan of Hope" will visit Brevard County, another county devastated by Hurricane Frances. Help will be available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Brevard County EOC - Salvation Army Comfort Station at Byrd Plaza, 801 Dixon Blvd, in Cocoa, FL.
