Florida Hospital has begun preparing for Hurricane Charley. Early Thursday morning, crews began draping the hospital with black windscreens. These windscreens cover the windows along the ground floor of the building and sustain winds of up to 110 mph, protecting patients and employees. To protect from flooding, sandbags were filled and distributed to low-lying areas of the hospital.
“We have plans in place for these kinds of situations,” said Steve Yancey, administrative director of facilities/engineering at Florida Hospital. “Teams began meeting this morning to go over checklists to ensure we are prepared.”
Hospital administration will be meeting throughout the day to make additional decisions based on the movement of Hurricane Charley.
