Florida Hospital and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida

Adventist Health System’s Florida Hospital Division and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida (BCBSF) have reached a new two-year agreement that will expand their current contract to include the BlueOptions (NetworkBlue) and BlueCare (HMO) plans at Florida Hospital’s 17 hospitals, 16 Centra Care Urgent Care Centers and other ancillary providers in the 9-county central Florida region.

Separate agreements have been completed with Florida Physicians Medical Group, Family Health Centers and Memorial Health System Physicians; participating providers in the network for these groups can be reviewed on the BCBSF online provider directory. The new agreements went into effect April 1, 2007.

BCBSF and Florida Hospital Orlando area facilities have had agreements in place for BlueChoice (PPO), Traditional Indemnity, Worker’s Comp and Advantage65. Ten of Florida Hospital’s 17 hospitals have been participating in BCBSF’s BlueCare (HMO) plan, but none of the Adventist Health System Florida hospitals, ancillaries or physicians have been participating with BlueOptions. With the expansion of the agreement, Florida Hospitals, ancillary providers and physicians are now in network for both BlueOptions and BlueCare lines of business; for all applicable operational licensed counties.

“We are pleased with our expanded relationship with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida,” said Kevin Lay, vice president of managed care, Adventist Health System. “With this agreement expansion, we hope more people will be able to experience the high-quality healthcare Florida Hospital provides to our patients every day.”

“We are gratified to expand our relationship with Florida Hospital to include our BlueOptions and BlueCare plans at all its hospitals, ancillaries, urgent care facilities and physician groups,” said Dr. Barry Schwartz, vice president, network management, BCBSF. “This agreement means that all our members will have access to a wider choice of quality health care throughout the region.”
