WHAT: On April 6, students, faculty, and other Florida Hospital staff will watch the initial demolition of the old dormitory building and get ready for the opening of the new Campus Center that will be dedicated on April 19. In a special program highlight, a time capsule dated from 1953, when the building was the nursing department as well as a housing facility for students, will be opened to see what treasures from the past have been kept inside.
BACKGROUND: Education at Florida Hospital has a rich history with the original Florida Hospital School of Nursing beginning in 1913. The College as it stands today opened in 1992 with 243 students. Today, the student body is made up of more than 2,000 students. FHCHS offers programs in nursing, health sciences, nuclear medicine, technology, occupational therapy assistant, radiography, sonography, and pre-professional studies.
WHO: The following participants in the ceremony will be available for interviews: David Greenlaw, president of FHCHS, and Don Bradley, former Florida Hospital administrator from 1953.
