Florida Hospital, Orlando Magic, Publix, Central Florida YMCA, and the American Heart Association Gather in Produce Aisle to Unveil Community Health Challenge

Start the New Year off with the Super Fit Family Challenge

WHAT: Florida Hospital, the Orlando Magic, Publix, Central Florida YMCA, and the American Heart Association are looking for hundreds of people to join the SuperFit Family Challenge.  Based on Florida Hospital’s book, SuperSized Kids: How to Rescue Your Child from the Obesity Threat, the SuperFit Family Challenge gives families the tools to develop a healthy, active lifestyle right at their fingertips.  Participants in the 8-Sweek program will receive:
 Free health screenings
 Free SuperSized Kids book
 Free two-month membership to the YMCA
 Free admission to the SuperFit Family tip-off celebration at the private Orlando Magic basketball court
 SuperFit Family Challenge "Tool Kit"
 Access to the specially designed SuperFit Family Challenge website
 Discounts at athletic stores, gyms, and restaurants
 Some other great surprises

From January 3-10, families can go to SuperSizedKids.com to register to be one of the hundreds of people to participate in this FREE program.  After going to the website, registrants will answer a series of questions to determine if they qualify to be a family in the Super Fit Family Challenge.

WHY: Recently, five Central Florida families took the 8-week challenge, and collectively lost 188 pounds, 33 inches around their waist, and all children went to a healthy body mass index – all without dieting.  Since the families had so much success on the program, it is now open to everyone in the community.

According to the CDC, if the current obesity trend is not reversed, it will soon become the nation’s #1 cause of preventable death.  Florida Hospital sees the devastating consequences firsthand.  The hospital admits one child a week with an obesity related illness, such as heart disease, diabetes, and kidney disease. In order to address the mushrooming childhood obesity epidemic, the entire community must take action. That’s why Florida Hospital and the Orlando Magic have teamed up with Publix, the American Heart Association, and the Central Florida YMCA to encourage hundreds of Central Floridians to jump into the New Year with a healthier lifestyle through the Super Fit Family Challenge.

WHEN: Beginning January 3 Central Florida residents can register at SuperSizedKids.com.
