Mayor Dyer Throws Touchdown Pass for Florida Hospital’s New Football Field-Sized Emergency Department

Football fans are used to passing the pigskin on the field or in their own backyards, but today Mayor Buddy Dyer stepped in as quarterback for “Team Florida Hospital” at an unconventional location.

From right outside the doors of the football field-sized Emergency Department at the new Ginsburg Tower at Florida Hospital Orlando, Mayor Dyer threw a pass and made a special announcement to help celebrate Florida Hospital’s Centennial.

After the pass, Mayor Dyer took a tour of the 15-story, 675,000-square-foot Ginsburg Tower and learned all about the newest addition to the Orlando skyline. The tower is now the tallest hospital building in the state and will house 440 new patient beds, as well as one of the largest emergency departments and one of the largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country.

About Florida Hospital
Florida Hospital is celebrating its official 100th birthday of providing health care in Central Florida. One hundred years ago, Florida Hospital – which has become an eight-campus system that sees more patient visits than any other hospital in the country – began with $4.83 in a farmhouse on the shore of Lake Estelle. Lining the banks today are the multiple buildings that make up Florida Hospital Orlando, the flagship institution of the hospital system.

The Ginsburg Tower at Florida Hospital Orlando features an efficient “LEAN track process” to streamline patient flow and decrease wait times throughout the Emergency Department, an extensive cardiology unit with the latest in technology and treatment, beautiful lake views from patient rooms and guest areas, more than 500 pieces of healing artwork, and much more.  Nurses, physicians, environmental service workers, administration and the community all played a role in designing this state-of-the-art sanctuary of healing that provides for the mind, body and spirit of patients and their families.
