As part of the demolition, Florida Hospital tore down two warehouses and an office building on McRae Avenue, located across the street from Florida Hospital Orlando. In their place will be the parking garage with a sky bridge across the railroad crossing that will connect to the Alden Street Garage, which will then connect to the new Ginsburg Tower. McRae Avenue will also be realigned as part of the project. The total cost for the demolition, realignment, new parking garage, and sky bridge is approximately $24 million. This part of the project is expected to be complete in early 2009. McRae Avenue will remain closed until that time. Florida Hospital is building a new patient tower that will contain the Florida Hospital Cardiovascular Institute, 440 patient beds (200 upon completion and 240 future beds), and one of the largest Emergency Departments in the country. Florida Hospital is still raising money for the expansion project which will cost an estimated $255 million. The patient tower is scheduled to be complete in late 2008, when Florida Hospital marks its 100th year of service to the Central Florida community. |
