East Side Bistro Opens for Patients, Visitors, and Staff at Florida Hospital East Orlando

You might not think of going to a hospital cafeteria for a delicious meal, but some folks who live and work in East Orlando are doing just that.

The new East Side Bistro recently opened in Florida Hospital East Orlando’s new patient tower, giving patients, visitors, and employees a new dining option.  The new café features a deli station with made-to-order sandwiches and salads; an Italian station featuring freshly-made pizzas, calzones and Stromboli’s; a Mediterranean pasta station; an “Around the World” station featuring Wok cooking and a variety of cultural cuisines; a Rotisserie station that serves Rotisserie chicken; a smoothie and mouthwatering dessert bar; and a gourmet coffee “shop” offering specialty coffees, cappuccinos and lattes.

“The East Side Bistro is a great addition to Florida Hospital East Orlando and gives our employees and guests fresh, healthy, delicious choices,” said Florida Hospital East Orlando Nutritional Services Director Don Bartlett.

The East Side Bistro is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. to midnight.    It serves the public, patients, visitors, and employees for dine-in or take-out.

In February, Florida Hospital East Orlando, a not-for-profit community hospital, added a brand new five-story addition.  The 200,000-square-foot patient tower added 80 new private rooms, allowed for more outpatient services to be accessible on the hospital campus, and expanded the hospital’s experienced medical staff.  But what’s most unique about the new tower is the new and innovative hospital design geared toward enhancing the patient experience.  From the convenient cobblestone and covered portico and accessible “healing boulevard” of outpatient services to the private, warm patient rooms with space to accommodate visitors, these patient experience enhancements create a healing environment.

The new Florida Hospital East Orlando patient tower is the first of several major expansion projects underway for the Florida Hospital system. Florida Hospital Orlando and Florida Hospital Altamonte are also adding new patient towers, while Florida Hospital Winter Park, Florida Hospital Kissimmee, Florida Hospital Celebration Health, and Florida Hospital Apopka are making significant facility improvements and additions.  The Florida Hospital East Orlando project cost approximately $80 million and was made possible in part by the generous philanthropic support of the community.
