WHAT: Celebrate the pouring of the last elevated concrete portion of the new patient tower at the ceremonial “topping out” party at Florida Hospital East Orlando, signifying completion of a major construction milestone. Employees, physicians, and construction crews will be there to witness the ceremonial flag and tree raising while enjoying food, music, and games. Items also will be placed in a time capsule that will be preserved in the new tower for future generations. WHY: Florida Hospital East Orlando is in the midst of a major, much-needed expansion project that will help meet the growing health care demands in East Orlando. When complete in January 2007, the $73 million expansion will include a 200,000 square-foot, five-story patient tower that will house 80 new beds and 80 future beds, a new main entrance and lobby, a state-of-the-art MRI, expanded cardiovascular services, hundreds of new parking spaces, and a renovated and more comprehensive imaging department. BACKGROUND: Florida Hospital East Orlando is raising some of the funds to pay for this project through philanthropic support. Specifically, the East Orlando community has already contributed generously to the cardiovascular service expansion, but the hospital will need additional support from the community to complete that part of the project. The project underway at Florida Hospital East Orlando is one of several major expansion projects in the works for the Florida Hospital system. Florida Hospital Orlando and Florida Hospital Altamonte are also adding new patient towers, while Florida Hospital Winter Park, Florida Hospital Kissimmee, Florida Hospital Celebration Health, and Florida Hospital Apopka are making significant facility improvements and additions.
