East Orlando is growing at a rapid pace and so is the need for health care services. Florida Hospital East Orlando, a not-for-profit community hospital, plans to meet these needs with a major inpatient and outpatient expansion and renovation project. On Wednesday, March 30, 2005, Orange County Mayor Richard Crotty, community leaders, Florida Hospital administrators and medical staff, and construction representatives broke ground on the construction project. It will add much needed inpatient beds, allow for more outpatient services to be accessible on the hospital campus, and grow the experienced medical staff. The project is expected to cost approximately $63 million dollars and will be made possible, in part, by the generous philanthropic support of the community. The construction project, scheduled for completion in January 2007, will include:
“The East Orlando population has grown 80% since 1990, and is expected to reach more than 370,000 people by 2008. Florida Hospital East Orlando is already operating at capacity, so we must add new patient beds to keep up with the demands of this community and to continue providing high quality health care for East Orlando,” said Ed Noseworthy, Florida Hospital East Orlando administrator. The expansion planned for Florida Hospital East Orlando is one of several major expansion projects in the works for the Florida Hospital system. Florida Hospital Orlando and Florida Hospital Altamonte are also adding new patient towers, while Florida Hospital Winter Park, Florida Hospital Kissimmee, Florida Hospital Celebration Health, and Florida Hospital Apopka are making significant facility improvements and additions. |
