Florida Hospital Celebration Health Adds New Unit and Additional Beds to Meet the Growing Needs of the Community

Osceola County is the seventh fastest growing county in the United States, and that growth is reflected in the increasing number of patients coming to Florida Hospital Celebration Health. In fact, the Emergency Department at Florida Hospital Celebration Health is seeing record numbers of patients on a daily basis and is projected to see more than 50,000 patients this year. To meet the escalating healthcare needs of the community, Florida Hospital Celebration Health recently completed a 10-bed Rapid-In-And-Out (RIO) Unit, added six new Emergency Department beds, and expanded the Emergency Department waiting area. “Our job is to be here for the community and to keep pace with the community,” said Monica Reed, MD, chief executive officer of Florida Hospital Celebration Health. “When patients come to our Emergency Department or need to be admitted to the hospital, we want them to be seen by the doctor, admitted, cared for, and released to rejoin their families as quickly as possible. Opening this 10-bed unit and our additional Emergency Department beds will allow us to do that.” To increase efficiency and make patients who are waiting to be admitted more comfortable, Florida Hospital Celebration Health added a Rapid-In-And-Out (RIO) Unit with 10 beds, including two private rooms. “The RIO Unit is generally a comfortable area where patients can stay while undergoing a short procedure such as an outpatient blood transfusion or IV antibiotic therapy. It also serves as an area to place patients from the Emergency Department, where they may be cared for comfortably while waiting for an inpatient bed when we are over 100 percent capacity. This also allows us to increase our flow of incoming patients through the Emergency Department allowing them to be seen and treated in less time,” said Dorothy Catena-Mileto, chief nursing officer at Florida Hospital Celebration Health. In addition, Florida Hospital Celebration Health added six new Emergency Department beds, bringing the total number of Emergency Department beds to 28. It also expanded the Emergency Department waiting area, which now seats nearly 70 people and includes a separate play area for children. “Each year we are seeing about 10 percent more tourists and residents than the previous year. This expansion will help us to process and care for patients faster, and it will also offer a very inviting and relaxing area for them to wait in,” said Deborah Laughon, director of Emergency Services at Florida Hospital Celebration Health. Florida Hospital Celebration Health is a destination hospital that specializes in minimally invasive surgical procedures. This cutting-edge health and wellness center provides inpatient and outpatient services, 24-hour emergency care, maternity, cardiac services, diagnostic, catheterization, wellness programs, women's and men's health programs, as well as primary care and specialty physicians on-site. As Florida Hospital Celebration Health continues to expand, it will depend on the generous philanthropic support of the community. |
