Florida Hospital Cancer Institute – Celebration Health is pleased to announce today’s grand opening of the Berelsman Cancer Resource Library. Thanks to a generous donation by Lyn and David Berelsman, the library is now available to serve the community. “I am a five-year breast cancer survivor myself and I know and understand what it’s like to be a patient,” said Lyn Berelsman. “My husband and I are thrilled to be able to give back to the community in this way.”
The Berelsman Cancer Resource Library offers an extensive collection of cancer related, books, articles, videotapes, complimentary brochures and an interactive touchscreen CancerHelp® computer. Free information is available to patients and their families, caregivers, members of the community, students, teachers, and service organizations. Customized packets with detailed information can also be created for patients.
The Cancer Resource Library is part of the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute and includes five locations in Central Florida. Forty-two volunteers currently work at the various libraries. Last year alone, volunteers contributed more than 7,000 hours in support of patient education information. Several organizations that specialize in cancer (including the American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute) supply the library with up-to-date and accurate information. A patient education coordinator also reviews all materials to ensure quality and up-to-date information.
The Florida Hospital Cancer Institute treats more cancer patients than any other health system in the State and has the largest research program in Central Florida.
