FH Celebration Health Offers Hip Surgery With Four-Inch Incision Tuesday February 5, 2002
Revolutionary hip surgery offers new hope to patients
You’ve heard of mini-skirts, and Minnie Mouse, but what about a mini hip?
Doctors at Florida Hospital Celebration Health now offer a new option when it comes to total hip replacement surgery.
Barbie Martin, 57, of Vero Beach will be one of the first people at Florida Hospital Celebration Health to undergo the new minimally invasive total hip replacement surgery.
Dr. David Dore, Medical Director of the Joint Replacement Center, at Florida Hospital Celebration Health, will perform the revolutionary procedure through a four-inch incision, which is approximately the equivalent to four quarters. The smaller incision results in less pain and quicker recovery times.
A traditional total hip replacement surgery involves an incision approximately ten to twelve inches long and often causes a large amount of trauma to the leg muscles.
There are nearly 300,000 hip replacement procedures performed annually in the United States. Dr. Dore performs nearly 100 total hip replacements every year.
