Dixit is a pediatric nephrologist at Florida Children’s Hospital and is part of Kids’ Docs, the largest panel of pediatric specialists in Orlando. He completed his pediatric nephrology fellowship and residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Dixit is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Florida and currently serves as the Medical Director for the Florida Children’s Kidney Center and Florida Hospital Pediatric Renal Transplant. He was instrumental in identifying the Spring 2005 outbreak of Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS) among children in Central Florida. “Physicians in Central Florida have a unique opportunity to support the College of Medicine. Not only can we educate the next generation of physicians through this relationship with UCF, we can help make significant contributions to medical research. The College of Medicine bears the UCF name, but it is a community resource that all medical professionals should support. Together we should develop the best medical school we can,” Dixit said. To date, approximately 300 volunteer faculty members have been appointed to the UCF College of Medicine from Central Florida, and many more appointments are in process. “Our community has shown tremendous support for the College of Medicine, and I’m confident that it will continue as we strive to build a medical school that will be a model for 21st century medical education,” said UCF College of Medicine Dean Deborah C. German, M.D. Florida Children’s Hospital has 155 dedicated pediatric beds, with 90 percent of the beds located at the Tertiary Children’s Hospital at the Orlando Campus. Florida Children’s Hospital is served by 60 Kids’ Docs, the largest panel of pediatric specialists in Orlando, 156 pediatricians and a highly trained pediatric team of more than 500 employees. The dedicated children’s hospital delivers a complete range of pediatric health services to younger patients, who benefit from the expertise of specialized departments throughout Florida Hospital. Florida Children’s Hospital has a partnership with Disney to create the “Children’s Hospital of the Future,” and will be the first hospital to bear the Disney name. The expansion and renovation will be complete in 2010, and will have 200 beds; private, family-centered pediatric rooms; a dedicated pediatric emergency department; an Advanced Center for Pediatric Surgery; destination pediatric programs including advanced surgery, oncology, neurosurgery, cardiology, transplant services, and full-service pediatrics; and an innovative health and obesity platform. |
