Jarrett's Joy Cart Keeps Child's Dream Alive At Florida Children's Hospital Tuesday April 8, 2003
Toy delivery means much more to hospitilized children.
He only lived to be 13 years old, but Jarrett Mynear had more life-fulfilling experiences than most people do in a lifetime. At the age of 10, after spending years in the hospital battling bone cancer, Mynear came up with "Jarrett’s Joy Cart" – a special cart filled with popular toys donated by local companies that would be given out to patients in local children’s hospitals. The weekly toy delivery became so wildly popular that it was featured on both the Rosie O’Donnell Show and Oprah.
Florida Children’s Hospital is now starting its own chapter of Jarrett’s Joy Cart with the help of the hospital’s ambassador child, Samantha Askey. Askey was awarded the Medal of Courage last November because of her courage and persistence in dealing with a life-threatening disease. Askey will be joined on her first round of toy deliveries by Jarrett’s parents – Doug and Jennifer Mynear and his sister Claire.
