For the 10th consecutive year, Florida Hospital has been recognized in the U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Hospitals,” available on newsstands July 14.  Florida Hospital made the list for its Endocrinology (Diabetes) services and is the only hospital in Central Florida to be named. 

Out of the 5,453 hospitals that were evaluated for this list, only 170 hospitals, including Florida Hospital, scored high enough to be listed this year.  Of the 50 hospitals on the Endocrinology list, Florida Hospital has the most discharges.

“Florida Hospital is honored to be the only Central Florida hospital on this prestigious list,” said Lars Houmann, president of Florida Hospital.  “We have consistently been recognized for our excellence in diabetes, and we look forward to enhancing that care even further as we embark on groundbreaking research with the Burnham Institute on the diabetic heart.”

In March, Florida Hospital and Burnham Institute for Medical Research announced the creation of a Clinical Research Institute (CRI) to collaborate on diabetes and obesity research.  The Florida Hospital-Burnham CRI, along with the Burnham Institute at Lake Nona, will be Burnham’s hub for diabetes and obesity research.

Opened in 1993, the Florida Hospital Diabetes Institute has more than 40,000 patient visits a year, making it one of the busiest facilities in Florida.  Florida Hospital is one of the largest not-for-profit hospitals in the country, caring for more than a million patient visits per year – that’s more than any other hospital in the country, according to the American Hospital Association.
