For the eighth consecutive year, Florida Hospital has been recognized in the U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Hospitals” issue which goes on newsstands July 10. Florida Hospital made the list for its Endocrinology (Diabetes) services and is the only hospital in Central Florida to be named. “Florida Hospital is extremely honored to be included on this prestigious list of world-class hospitals in the nation,” said Lars Houmann, president of Florida Hospital. “This further exemplifies our commitment to providing quality healthcare and fulfilling our mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ to our patients.” Out of the 5,189 hospitals that were evaluated for this list, only 176 hospitals, including Florida Hospital, scored high enough to be listed this year. Florida Hospital is listed as number 38 in the Endocrinology (Diabetes) category for its services in this area. Opened in 1993, the Florida Hospital Diabetes Center treats more than 9,000 new patients each year, making it one of the busiest facilities in Florida – in fact, of the 50 hospitals on the Endocrinology list, Florida Hospital has the highest patient volume. “It’s wonderful that residents in Central Florida have access to this quality of care in their own backyard,” said Dr. Samuel Crockett, medical director of the Florida Hospital Diabetes Center. “We provide whole-person care for our patients, offering state-of-the-art diabetes services, education, and a fitness center. We are honored to be included in this list of exceptional hospitals in the nation.” The 17th annual edition of U.S. News & World Report’s “America’s Best Hospitals” is a resource for consumers who are seeking maximum care in the diagnosis, treatment and management of a difficult medical problem. According to the publication, “Ranked hospitals tend to adhere more closely to advanced treatment guidelines, to incorporate new findings into patient care, and to conduct research that gives desperately ill patients more options.” Opened in 1908, Florida Hospital is one of the largest not-for-profit hospitals in the country, caring for more than a million patients per year – that’s more than any other hospital in the country, according to the American Hospital Association. The 1,797-bed system, comprised of seven hospitals and 16 Centra Care walk-in medical centers, has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best hospitals in the country for the past eight years. |
