Florida Hospital Centra Care Launches Community Campaign Designed to Save Lives

Florida Hospital Centra Care announced today that FREE colon cancer detection kits will be available at all 16 Florida Hospital Centra Cares locations during the entire month of March. This year more than 150,000 Americans will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer and of those 55,000 are expected to die. Many people would be surprised to know in almost every instance of colon cancer cases, it could have been prevented and the life saved. With early detection, colorectal cancer has a 90 percent survival rate. That’s why during March, Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, Florida Hospital Centra Care together with the Florida Hospital Digestive Health Center, the Orange County Health Department, Get Healthy Florida, and Z88.3 are teaming up to make it easy for Central Floridians to get screened for colon cancer. All people have to do is walk into a Florida Hospital Centra Care and simply ask for the colon cancer detection kit. Take the simple test home, follow the instructions, and within minutes they will know whether or not they are at risk for developing colon cancer. Once they have their results, they are asked to call 407-200-CARE where they can speak to a live person who will connect them with a gastroenterologist. Everyone over the age of 50 should be screened for colorectal cancer. People under the age of 50 should also be screened if they have the following risk factors: obesity; eating 2 – 3 servings of red meat a week; participating in less than 30 minutes of physical activity a day; and a family history of colon polyps, colon cancer, breast cancer, or uterine cancer. |
