WHAT: Women make three-fourths of the healthcare decisions in American households and make 59 percent of physician visits, but they are less likely to seek preventative screenings and medical care for themselves, according to the Society for Women’s Health Research. That’s why Florida Hospital is rolling two 48-foot semi trucks into town as part of the GE Women’s Health and Wellness Tour. “It is important for women to take the time to have these important health screenings. Because it is so important Florida Hospital is bringing this tour to the Central Florida area and give it as a gift to the women of this community during National Women’s Health Month, ” said Dr. Monica Reed, Senior Medical Officer at Florida Hospital. The tour is an effort to educate women about the importance of early detection and prevention of various women’s health concerns including breast, bone and heart health. The tour offers free medical screenings, educational information and interactive discussions with leading health experts. One of the mobile units is fully equipped with the latest, state-of-the-art clinical technology that will offer complimentary screenings for cardiovascular disease, as well as education about breast health. The second truck will be dedicated to the mind, body, and spirit, with healthy cooking demonstrations, osteoporosis screenings, and fitness demonstrations. Outside of the trucks, 12 tents will offer cholesterol screenings, skin damage tests, health lectures, and opportunities to schedule medical services.
