Flu Shots Available to Everyone at Florida Hospital Centra Cares

Flu Vaccination Restrictions Have Been Lifted

Virus are unpredictable and the influenza virus is no different.  The flu is now beginning to spread in Central Florida, and national data shows the Orlando area is on high alert for Influenza. For the past three months, flu shots have been in short supply – and limited to those in the high-risk category. Now the Florida Department of Health has lifted all flu vaccination restrictions and has sent thousands of flu vaccines to Central Florida.  Beginning Monday, January 31, ALL 13 Florida Hospital Centra Care locations will be administering the flu shot.  No appointment is necessary and with 13 locations, long lines are not expected.  The cost is $20.

The virus is already widespread, with most of the country experiencing some level of flu in their communities. “Flu season isn’t over.  In fact, it is just getting started in Central Florida,” said Scott C Brady, MD, administrator and Florida Hospital Centra Care medical director. “The flu has taken many states by surprise this year because it started so late.  In Central Florida, flu cases are increasing and thank goodness the State has released more than 20,000 flu shots to Central Florida – and has decided that now everyone can get these flu shots – no restrictions. So, it isn’t too late to get a flu shot.”

The CDC reports that flu activity has not yet reached its peak this season.  Last week alone 8.1 percent of reported deaths were attributed to influenza or pneumonia; which is considered above the epidemic threshold.

Area Health Departments in Orange, Osceola and Seminole County also have thousands of influenza vaccine available to the general public. No appointment is needed.
