WHAT:
Two pediatric cancer patients are celebrating the end of their chemotherapy treatment today with a very special guest: Denver Broncos defensive end and Central Florida native Kenard Lang. The parties at the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute are organized by B.A.S.E. Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation to celebrate milestones during a patient’s treatment. The end-of-chemo party is the grandest of the milestone parties as it signals a patient reaching the end of their treatment and beginning the road to recovery and remission. Be there as the 10-year-old and 17-year-old patients celebrate with their family and friends, other patients, and a 10-year National Football League (NFL) football player from the Denver Broncos!
BCKGRD:
Florida Hospital Cancer Institute provides a comprehensive continuum of services ranging from disease prediction and prevention to state-of-the-art detection, treatment and research - encompassed by educational, psychological, and spiritual support. FHCI treats more than 3,800 newly diagnosed cancer patients each year - more than any other program in Florida.
B.A.S.E. Camp Children's Cancer Foundation, established in Orlando Florida in 1982, focuses on providing a year-round series of programs to help children and families along the journey of cancer and other life-threatening hematological illnesses. They believe that “Kids Can’t Fight Cancer Alone.” Programs include lunch programs and dinner and movie nights at local hospitals in addition to monthly overnight camps for cancer patients.
The Kenard Lang Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that works together with other foundations and corporations to focus specifically on cancer, youth and education. The Foundation has given $5,000 to B.A.S.E. Camp, which has helped provide milestone parties, overnight trips for cancer patients, and lunch programs.
