The Florida Hospital Cancer Institute is pioneering a new educational tool to share medical awareness messages with patients. Physician Educational Exam Table Paper ™ — developed by the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute — is being delivered to about 100 local doctor’s offices. "The goal of the product is to educate patients and to encourage them to talk with their doctor about their medical concerns and questions," said Director of the Genetic Cancer Program at the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute John Langdon, MD. "Exam rooms are perfect venues for this tool because there is a captive audience. This is a wonderful proactive approach to cancer prevention and early detection." Breast cancer awareness is the theme of the first round of paper that is currently being distributed. Future table paper will include other medical topics and prevention tips. Also located in each doctor room will be a short survey for patients to fill out. It will assess if they find the material on the paper useful. After completing the survey, patients will receive a 2005 Florida Hospital Cancer Institute Cancer Prevention calendar.
"This presents a brand new opportunity for patients to improve the medical value of their visit. It has the potential to become the standard in every doctor’s office and we’re thrilled that the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute is leading the effort," said Dr. Langdon.
The first batch of table paper was delivered to Loch Haven OB GYN in Orlando on Wednesday, February 16.
