Florida Hospital Cancer Institute Takes Children with Cancer to the "North Pole"

Cancer patients will celebrate Christmas with games, activities, and special celebrities

WHAT: Everyone will get on board as some very special children take part in a holiday treat they won’t soon forget. The Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases at the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute (FHCI) and Continental Airlines will take kids with cancer on a “Flight to the North Pole.” Eight hundred to 1,000 kids will board a plane and taxi over to the “North Pole” – which will be an airplane hangar decorated like a Winter Wonderland. Santa and Mrs. Claus will greet the children and ride with them to the “North Pole.”

Once the kids arrive at their destination, Santa and Mrs. Claus will guide them off the plane and to their festive holiday party. While there, they will encounter cheerleaders, firetrucks, penguins, food, Stuff from the Orlando Magic, Jeffrey from Toys R Us, a velcro wall for climbing, special celebrity appearances and much more. There will also be a variety of games and activities.

WHEN:  Saturday, December 11, 2004
           11:30 – Children will begin boarding the planes to go to the “North Pole.”
