The Clinical and Research Laboratories (CRL) of the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute has been nationally recognized, by ADVANCE Magazine, as Laboratory of the Year. In honor of National Medical Laboratory Week, April 14 – 20, ADVANCE Magazine announced the Laboratory of the Year and the Laboratorian of the Year. In addition to the CRL being named as Laboratory of the Year, Dr. John Francis won second place as Laboratorian of the Year.
The unique laboratory at Florida Hospital Cancer Institute was established in 1994 to undertake research into the blood clotting system and cancer spread. Within a year, the CRL added clinical testing services, establishing the first, and still the only, dedicated special coagulation laboratory in central Florida. Subsequently, CRL added stem cell processing facilities to support Florida Hospital’s Bone Marrow Transplant Program, and additional clinical testing capability in Molecular Diagnostics. Most recently, CRL added a clinical research division that will enable it to undertake contract and investigator-initiated, patient-related research as well as to support other research efforts in hemostasis at Florida Hospital.
“I truly believe that our laboratory is unique in the way we combine research and clinical diagnostic work in a community hospital environment. I am extremely proud of all the staff who have worked so hard over the last 8 years to create such a unique and exciting workplace,” said Dr. John Francis, Director of Clinical and Research Laboratories at Florida Hospital Cancer Institute.
ADVANCE for Medical Laboratory Professionals is the only newsmagazine in the field to link laboratory professionals in all the disciplines encompassing the industry through coverage of professional organization events and other newsworthy updates affecting the field.
